Help with dying engine
Hi Guys
Sort of new to the forum been here since January and used past treads to resurrect a 98 p38 with good success. There is one issue I can't figure out. The truck is very hard to start you must crank it quit a bit and you have to give it gas to start. Once it starts it runs great and it always starts. Also this just started it will completely die, and once you come to a stop it restarts and runs fine(sometimes however it will shut down for a split second and then run fine).Getting code p1193.o2 sensor. What I have already done is used mass air sensor, new fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator, new crank sensor and new plugs. Thinking of changing the stepper motor?
Also one strange thing happened yesterday,I noticed the tube from the left valve cover to the plenum was crumbling so I removed it and ran to the parts house for a new one. When I came out I noticed a puddle of oil under the rear of the engine and on the firewall. I replaced the vacuum hose and the leak stopped.
Any help would b great Thanks Chet

The valve cover vents (PCV system) have an oil separator on one side, pull out and clean it or blast some carb cleaner in it. If plugged, can make slight pressure in places designed to be vented, and oil will come out of seals. Sounds like your IACV needs good cleaning with carb cleaner as well, do not adjust the tip. The IACV is a computer controlled air leak.

Tried unplugging the stepper motor and the truck started and idled high and ran rich, plugged it back in and engine ran normal. So I went for a drive and while going up a hill, engine cold, I let of the gas and she stalled. Started right up and took It on the highway for approximately 15 minute and returned to the hill and I could not get the truck to stall again. Just some info on the truck, it was off the road for 2 years someone broke into it and the owner couldn’t get it to crank and sold it to me,and yes the key code unlock sequence DOES work, but I haven’t even run half tank of good gas through it yet.
Thanks for all the help I will keep trying.
