hey im new here guys.i have a 96 range rover se.my brakes are really scareing me.every time i press the break pedal the pump kicks on,which is not right..Also sometimes when i got to stop the pedal wont go down and there is a clicking sound from behind the dash.This only happens sometime.ive put a new accumulator on today and nothing changed.Now im lost .any help i would be grateful.

 

Not sure how the brake layout is on the range rover but I would start by checking for any leaks, check all brake pads rotors and calipers for wear and see weather or not the brake servo booster is still functioning correctly.

 

brake pads,rotors,and calipers are all fine.by servo booster im assuming you mean the abs pump?if so how do i check that?i think i may have a wheel bearing or wheel seal bad,would that cause my brakes to act stiff like that?

 

PULL THE ABS PUMP FUSE FROM THE UNDER HOOD FUSE BOX BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT AGAIN!!!!!!
Problem solved, my fuse has been pulled for 5? years.
This is a common problem and a very dangerous one, as you well know.

 

ok i just did that i have two abs fuses, 5 & 30 amp.i drove bout five miles with both pulled and noticed my speed odometer didnt work,brakes worked fine.i plugged the 5 amp back in to make speed odometer work,brakes worked finw with the 30 amp fuse pulled and 5 plugged in.my abs light is still on,but my tc light went off.tomorrow ill drive it further and see if it is indeed fixed. thanks for your help.btw why does the fuse make my brakes do that??

 

You need to leave the ABS fuse in, the ABS PUMP fuse is the one you need to pull, which is the 30A one.
Its not the fuse doing it, it is the overactive ABS PUMP, by pulling the fuse you removed the power to the ABS PUMP.
It'll be fine for as long as you want to leave it that way, you will NOT have ABS though.
So you also will not have traction control or hill decent control if your truck has it because those all work off the ABS system, which is controlled by the ABS PUMP.
If you want those things back you will need to take it to a shop that can read Rover ABS codes.
Leave that fuse out until you get to the shop if you choose to go that route.

 

it does that because there is a ABS fault.
