Default Hot hand brake cable

I have a 2002 disc 2 land rover. The hand brake cable in counsel turns glowing red (burnt wiring near it) when turning over (14 amps) but cools to normal when running. Checked all ground wires and connectors under hood and under body. Added a second ground wire from battery to body. Will turn over fine at first but then battery dies (battery is newer and had it tested) but will then start with a jump. Starter and selinoid new. What is going on?

Transmission to frame and engine block to frame jumpers need attention. You can "test" with a battery jumper cable from block to negative battery, etc.

Agree with both above. Definitely defective earth grounds somewhere. Also this can cause a lot of damage and a possible cable fire. Needs fixing immediately before using again.
