I am considering purchasing my first LR and need advice
Hi, I am considering trading my 2010 Ford F-150 for used Land Rover (not tied to a specific model). I need more backseat space and always loved the way they looked. I know some basic stuff about the brand and their cars but would like to get advice to better understand what I am getting into. I do know is that those trucks take only Premium Gas (more $$), and I am curious how expensive overall ongoing maintenance is and I've heard horror stories about people having a lot of issues with those cars but then I have also heard people LOVE their LR, so I am torn and can use any/all the help before I make my final decision. I appreciate everyone's help in advance. Below are links to couple of cars (in no particular order) I was looking at and would love some feedback, not sure what is good/bad year to buy and what is considered too many mile for a used LR and any other red flags.

The RR's you're looking at are considered "late model" to many of us. We mostly have older models that we acquired on the cheap and we keep 'em going with our collective experience, blood, sweat and dedication. Any used high end vehicle is gonna need maintenance and costly repairs. More so with something that was upwards of 70-80k new. Maybe someone who works on them at a dealership can be more help, or others who have them can come out of the woodwork with advice. redwhitekat's advice seems mandatory. Good luck with your search.

Army has said that he's been happy with his LR3 (D3) after having older Rangies and Discos. They can be made to be reliable, but at this age, it's more of a restoration to get to that point. The newer ones starting with the LR3 are more reliable in general as long as you find one that has been cared for properly and do your due diligence in maintenance. If not, don't expect reliability -in any vehicle!

It's not a matter of reliability, but of restoration and required maintenance. By strict terms, a Range Rover Classic's reliability far exceeds an LR3 or 4, but it requires restoration before an apples to apples comparison can be made and then it will need more frequent maintenance if starting from a "new" condition.
