Hi all:

You all always do a great job of directing me, so I need your help again. This happened on and off for about a year--happening maybe 5 times total. The gear basically gets stuck in park and I can't get it out. It takes a lot to finally get it to unlock. It seems to be connected to a clicking noise in the shifter when I press the brakes. If it clicks when I press the brakes, its fine--otherwise I'm stuck. I seen on some other post without followups that it may be a break switch or shift solenoid, Any ideas? Is this something I can do myself? If so, how do I do it? I'm willing to try anything before dragging it into a shop. I have a 2000 Disco II. Thanks very much!!

Uh, yea. I was looking for info on the solenoid issue--not the brake switch. Kinda crummy to be told that since no one else here was told to research it more here with all the previous posts.
