Default Lock malfunction diagnosis

Hey all,

While working on my 02 LR Disco SE7 (123k) this weekend, I took the trunk door panel off to see if I could figure out why my trunk wouldn't lock/unlock electronically. The actuator responded to the the fob and the interior lock button by clicking once, and you could feel the click, but nothing would happen visibly. I'm trying to figure out if the problem could be something other than the acuator... I couldn't figure out how to check the voltage with that plug.

I've found some fairly cheap used, guaranteed actuators for said door and the rear passenger door. They both have the same issue, but the trunk is the biggest pain for me. They're $55+s&h for the pass. door and $75+s&h for the trunk. If you know of a better deal elsewhere, please let me know.

Thanks!!

Jason

Any ideas or pointers from someone who has dealt with lock issues in the past? I know there are plenty of you out there!

I don't know if it will help you it worked for me, if you "gentle pry the LR emblem off the back door handle", you can get to the latch to lube it all up,

And volts would appear on pin 7 and pin 4 of the plug to lock/unlock. It reverses the polarity to make lock motor run backwards to unlock. That would be pink with purple, and the pink with red wires. See attached pix.

Yeah, we actually took the interior panel off and removed the lock mechanism. What exactly did you lube up? The door still unlocks when I pull the handle, but the actuator itself doesn't move at all. Someone mentioned spraying WD-40 on it, but that seems like a bad decision.

Wow, great diagram, thanks. That's very helpful. Do you know what the correct voltage would be?

12 volts ish, automotive volts vary a bit. Might be as high as 14. But 8 or 9 probably won't work.

Hi CaptainCulp

Do try all the recommendations by Savannah Buzz as the process is one of elimination. Unfortunately I have suffered from the problem of fickle Landrover locks a couple of years ago and had to replace the master drivers side lock/actuator and the offside rear door as both failed withing a week of each other. A friend who owns a VAG/BMW/Mercedes garage in the UK checked the locks and tested them and unfortunately they were kaput and required replacement. Both were making the right noises but not actually locking or unlocking. Hope you are more lucky with yours. The exorbitant prices charged by Landrover in the UK were circa £90 each at that time.
