M and S lights flashing

Crap, I can't tell you off the top of my head what p1601 is ( manufacture code ). I want to say it's a fault set when the trans ecu stops communicating because of a hard fault in the trans, I can't be sure and won't be able to tell you for sure until tuesday.
Autozone might not be able to read your trans ecu for codes (I don't think). They can only read engine ecu codes that are emissions related ( the ones that are federaly mandated to a standard so anyone can read them without special dealer tools and can service emission related issues ). You might have to find a land rover shop to do so, but it's money well spent to have them check for faults in the trans. ( Just don't let them charge you more then $50-60 .

Ha! Found it!
p1601 is - eeprom fault - checksum fault.
The diag flow path is saying that this a faulty trans ecu fault flagged by the engine ecu. The check is to sub a known good trans ecu and retest.
I am still curious as to what the trans codes are ( If the ecu is working enough to be able to read them out ) . I always get nervous when a fault code condems an ecu and then it turns out to be a bad ground or something.

These forums are great. I have a new to me 2000 Disco and this past weekend the M and S lights and engine lights all lit up. I used to have to push the gear selector forward forcefully in order to start the truck.
Took me 5 min to fix problem, loosened the 2 10mm bolts holding the XYZ switch, quick adjustment, and retightened. The M S Engine lights went away and the truck works excellent again

You have a lot of rain in your area. Go to the transmission, a clutch rivets, which would be oxidized (rivets), moisture can enter the field and the flash of S & M.You must open your mailbox and clean the connector what I have done the club in February 2003, winter brass screws and installation instead of metal rivets.
