Unhappy M and S lights flashing only in R and P

Our 2003 Disco II has problems with the M and S lights flashing but only in R and P. After a restart in N we can drive away without any problems. Our mechanic checked the battery (13,6V without running engine and 14,6V with running engine), changed and sealed the xyz switch, made the drain of the A/C longer so it won't drip into the xyz switch any more, checked the alternator and read out the codes but there weren't any. We don't know what to do anymore.

It seems that as we drive for a while and then want to put the car in R it won't give problems with the M and S lights. It is always the case after a period of standing still, mornings etc.

Does anybody know what the problem is with our Disco?

Have a dealer take a look at the transmission codes and possible bcu codes if there is any.

After changing the xyz switch they read out all the codes and everything was ok. We drove home and later that day as we wanted to back out the garage the M and S lights started blinking again. In the last half a year they read out the codes a several times now and still can not find anything. That is why we need help desparately.

I gave you the answer, get them read by a professional. You are throwing parts at something without diagnosing correctly first.

If the lights are flashing....codes are present. Alot of aftermarket code readers do not communicate with alot of landrover systems. You should pay the dealer to read em. It takes literaly 2 min. with the hand held T4 scanner. If they are nice they will only charge you .5 to check it.

May be I wasn't clear enough but the dealer changed all those parts and as M and S started flashing again I drove our Disco again to the dealer and he couldn't find any codes. So he cleaned some contact pins he said and everything was fine until we backed out the garage the next day. The dealer says he needs to examine the car again. I am scared for more high bills.

We have our Disco for 1 1/2 years and from the week after we bought our car we saw these lights. We had the xyz switch replaced and we drove half a year without problems. Than the second switch lasted another half a year and now again a new switch and still lights flashing and no codes anymore says the dealer. Bringing in the car to read out the codes will not cost us 5 euro but 45 euro. I asked my question on this forum because we were afraid that it would be a never ending story with our car in accordance with bills and more bills.

Our son has our car with him on holiday to Austria but when he comes back I will bring the car to the dealer for the so manyest time and will give an update afterwards.

its possible the module is bust. seen it a few times.

Oh and go back to the dealer and request they fix it for free or the labour be free. They did get into it and misdiagnose it.

Trust me a bad mistake by a tech always costs him if the dealer is smart. Of course in your case in Europe with the way the techs are paid, there is no consequences for mistakes.

Problem seems to be solved. Several contact pins (especially under ECU and at the top of the ECU were cleaned and put somekind of gel onto (so no spray)
