Need a new engine, couple questions
So after my 2003 disco started getting coolant in the oil, me and my friend who is a mechanic tore down the engine and found the block was cracked. Anyways looking for a new 4.6L and thought of the range rover 4.6 from 1999 to 2002. I found one in California with 71k for $1700
supposedly these engines were better made as the tooling at rover was stronger back then is this true?
and also this is the exact same engine as the one in the 4.6 disco in terms of actually installing it right?
I still have all new lifters and pushrod and coils and gaskets from the rebuild kit I bought that unfortunately I won't be able to use with my current engine.

P38 4.6 engines came in both Bosch and Gems versions. If you get a Bosch version you won't have to change out the computers, etc. Other than that, sounds like you are on the right track. I got a completely rebuilt one for $1000 a few years ago... It's been running fine since its installation. Also a small fact which is good to know, the 4.0 and 4.6 bare blocks are identical. It is only the internals that make a 4.6 out of it. So you could rebuild a 4.0 block into a 4.6. Several threads and one member here currently doing exactly that.
