what are the block differences for disco's
i may need a new block if i cant get rid of the tick in my new rebuilt motor.
i was told that the 4.0 and 4.2 and 4.6 blocks are the same
i understand the managment is different
i wanna get a block and install my new guts and top end

my engine is a 4.6 mike, the tick is either from bad cam bearings that weren't replaced by my mech. because he thought they looked fine " no wear even on the cam" which would cause a lack of oil pressure
or the lifter bore is bad and the lifter isn't spinning and keeping oil pressure.
the main and rod bearings are new and have been replaced 2 times since rebuild 3 months ago. my mech is a retard but still if there is something wrong with my block and not my crank, rods, pistons i'm going to want to find myself another block
what are the differences between the 4.0 and the 4.6 block for swapping purposes. i'm going to want to take the guts from my 4.6 and put them in a 4.0 block. since 4.0 motors are so cheap compared to 4.6

The 3.9, 4.0 and 4.6 are he same block and heads, only different guts.
The RRC 4.2 I am not sure about.
The 3.9 will have the hole for the distributor, the 4.0 and 4.6 will not.
Your 4.6 heads and guts will bolt right up to the 4.0.
Bore and stroke are different.
I am 95% sure that the 4.0 & 4.6 use the same heads.
I do not think that the 4.6 heads are milled at all but I could be wrong.
You will need your crank, rods, lifters, cam. Measure the pistons and see if the are the same diameter.
You can convert a GEMS engine to a BOSCH engine as long as you have all of the necessary components...crank sensor, SAI, the BOSCH computer will need input from all of the things that are supposed to be there.
So as long as you switch everything from your block to the new you will be fine.
