Default Please help

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this problem could be. My 1996 Disco 3.9i V8 Starts and runs very well until I turn the engine off. When the engine is hot (temp gauge showing normal) it will not start. Turn the key and nothing, doesn't even turn the engine but the electric fans kick in when the ignition is on. If i leave it 15 - 20 mins it will start as normal. If i left the engine running it would run all day without fault.

Crank position sensor. Replace it.

Often that is a symptom of starter going bad. Could also simply be high resistance in starting circuit when hot due loose/corroded terminals or bad cable. Suggest removing, cleaning and re-torque of fasteners at starter if budget minded. If money not issue may want to replace starter while working down there.

I second a bad starter. It sounds like when it gets hot the solenoid gets stuck.

If it's a 3.9 wouldn't it have a distributor? Therefore no crank sensor? Can't remember if there is a 3.9 that comes with GEMS system or not.

Aaaah, good point. I didn't pay close enough attention to the details.

Checked how and by whom? Did they remove/clean starter connections and inspect cables?

If all that's been done you sometimes need to throw a part/bucks at a intermittent problem, live with it, and wait for constant hard failure.
