please need answer before noon today
i have a 1990 range rover county 3.9L I'm going to replace the head gaskets and the valley pan what i need to know is do i have to put sealant on both top and bottom side of the valley pan on the water port or just on the top side already have everything off and clean just waiting on gaskets to come in they will be here at noon hope to have it running today with no leaks thank you
IMHO the purpose of the sealant is to close up very small spaces between the gasket and the metal. So I always do skim coat on both sides. "Gasket dressing" so to speak. But I spend my paycheck on fine motor coach maintenance; I do not earn it that way, so I would defer to those who have to do a great job everytime to keep customers coming back and sending their friends.
On the head gaskets, I know a lot of people use copper coat spray on the surface of the gasket that mates to the block.
Do you have a manual or Rave CD for directions?
Where are you getting the gasket/bolts from?
