IMHO the purpose of the sealant is to close up very small spaces between the gasket and the metal. So I always do skim coat on both sides. "Gasket dressing" so to speak. But I spend my paycheck on fine motor coach maintenance; I do not earn it that way, so I would defer to those who have to do a great job everytime to keep customers coming back and sending their friends.

On the head gaskets, I know a lot of people use copper coat spray on the surface of the gasket that mates to the block.
Do you have a manual or Rave CD for directions?
Where are you getting the gasket/bolts from?
