Rangerover P38 4.6 HSE doesn't always start and stalls randomly
Hi,
We recently bought a Rangerover P38 4.6 HSE from 2000. The car was not driving at that moment due to some issues with the fuelpump (at least the seller said it was the fuelpump). Sometimes the car starts but sometimes not.
We already replaced the fuel pump and the relay. However there are still some problems. We expect that somebody did something with the alarm system.
When the car doesn't start, the fuel pump is getting power however no ignition. Strange enough, after open/closing a door or the hood, we can start the engine. Does anybody had the same problem?
We would like to disable the alarm system, any idea how to do this?
Furthermore, does anybody know some freeware diagnostic software for this car?
Thanks in advance

Anyone with a Hawkeye tool (individual) or a Testbook tool (dealership) can disable your alarm as desired.
Also, any generic OBD2 code scanner tool can read your error codes (typically done for you for free at auto parts stores).

Disabling your factory alarm could be difficult/impossible if you don't have the tool. The hood latch though, seems to be a common issue with other LR's. My LR3 has a faulty hood latch sensor that caused the alarm to go off randomly. The fix is to a. buy a new sensor/latch (pretty cheap ~$30-$40) or B. loop the circuit by disconnecting the harness, make a U out of a paperclip and stick it into the harness plug between the two leads. I'd do this first and see if it solves the issue.
