Default rattling brake pads?????

I have owned my 97 disco 1 for 2 years now and when i got i changed the front brake pads and ever since i have heard a random clicking sound like they are bouncing around. I brought it to 4 different mechanics before i discovered what it was on my own which three had no clue and the other thought it was my axle needing to be regreased. There are shims in place and the retaining pins are good too, just curious if anyone else has experienced this same problem? Oh yeah i changed my rear brake pads 2 months ago and now they do it too, I havent had any braking problems its just annoying ti listen to.

Have you pulled a wheel and looked at them?
Do they do it all the time, or just when applying the brakes?

Yeah iv checked it out. A few different times. Its gotten fairly constant over the year i figure due to the pads getting worn down. Maybe crappy pads i dont know. When i hit the brakes sometimes they will make a snapping sound like the pads are moving forward. Ive inspected my calipers and they are in good shape.

I have the same problem!!! I too have a 97 Discovery. I only havethe issueon the drivers side front... I thought it was wheel bearing? I reset my wheel bearing two days ago with no improvement. I pulled the wheel when I had it on a hoist. From what I could tell, it was the rotor bouncing back and fourth between the pads, thus my thought of the wheel bearing. I know there are "release" springs that you put over the pad pins. Their suposid purpose is to "spring" the pads back after they have been compressed. Mine are toast. Not something you can buy again either. Can you get such a thing from Land Rover? If you can no doubt at a cost of your left nut and your first bourne... If you find a solution, I'd love to know!! I'll keep playing and see if I can eliminate it. If I do I'll be sure to pass it on.

is that not done through the wheel bearing? How is the rotor held in?
