My wifes 2003 disco's SES amber light came on yesterday. Its due for an oil change at 53k but currently has 51k. Is this on because of an upcoming oil change or something more serious?

the reason i ask is because we are planning on heading out saturday for our 4th of july holidaytour of the south east and the local dealer cant get us in until monday. Does driving the car with the light on for another 500 miles hurt anything? I was thinking of getting it serviced / oil change on monday but at a dealership at our first stop in nashville.

Go to a local auto parts store and have your codes read. That light is a warning that something is wrong with the engine. Once you get the codes get back to us with the fault numbers and try to help you.
