Default Strengthen Tongue Weight?

My wheelchair weighs 350lbs and I would need total to be 500 lbs including the chair lift. My 1997 Disco SE tongue weight limit is 330. Is there any way to have this strengthened to carry my chair? Very difficult for me to use ramps, too heavy for me to lift. Thanks rover guys.

Would probably need some custom work done to reinforce it or completely replace it. No off the shelf solution I'm aware of.

I bought an 03' D2 S model that had a uhaul trailer hitch set up that was super heavy duty. It had these long rails almost the dimension of the frame rails welded to the frame rails for over a foot. I'm guessing uhaul installed it as it had the decals and a uhaul trailer harness. You might try them.

MY 2000 DII has the same hitch from U-haul on it. Tongue weight on it I think is in the 500-550 range

I don't think the issue is the tow hitch. Looking in the D2 manual, it also lists a 330 lbs tongue weight, but then mentions that you can go up to 550 so long as you don't exceed the rear axle weight. I'm guessing coil springs might be an issue.

Assuming you don't carry around a full load of passengers and equipment, I'd think you'll be just fine with the 500lbs. If the back end sags too much you could look into getting some Old Man Emu (or other brand) HD rear springs.

You could always load it up and then take it to a place with scales and confirm the axle loads, but I'd probably just drive it like it is. It's got to be safer than all of those mini-vans I see driving around with the same setup hanging off the back.

Default took pics in case it helped

Here are pics if you can tell if it anything has been added or just original. Uhaul is close I can see what they think. Someone that is not a rover driver said he has wheelchair like mine and it bent the tongue. Do not know what kind or car he had. Thanks rover guys.

It's stock. All north american spec D1 and RRC have the receiver built into the chassis. It's not going anywhere.
