Default Stuck in park

Hi, I have a 2003 Landrover Discover series II. We have owned it for about 12 months and not had any issues, apart from some bad gas once (the car not me).
Recently the auto shifter has been getting stuck in 'Park'. I have to press the brake in an out many times until it finally shifts. I am up in Chicago and are wondering if something is getting 'gummed up' with the road salt. Any ideas how I can fix this issue?
Cheers

First check to see if your brake lights are coming on every time. The shifter interlock is based on the brake light switch ( yours is probably going out). I hear it is like a 10 minute fix.

good luck

Ditto, most like a faulty brake switch if your brake lights are not working. This is a common issues and a new switch can sometimes be found a a local parts store, by the way, they are easy to replace, all of 5 minutes.

Thanks for your help. It was a faulty brake switch. All good now.

local parts stores are selling the same crappy switch. We at the dealer switched over to th e LR3 ones with a harness due to a freelander brake switch recall.

and their is a trick to get them out of park if you are stuck. just pull up the cover for the prnd12 shifter and push in a little solenoid to get it out of park. you can feel around until you feel the little button and then you can push it into neutral to start.
