The Discovery weights 4500lbs empty, your trailer hitch is not strong enough.

Default Class 3 hitch?

I believe the 3500lbs refers to the tongue weight not the towing capacity, correct me if I'm wrong but check the towing capacity of the rv. I am looking at doing the same thing behind my Ram truck 8450lbs towing capacity. I was thinking of building an A frame, and using the bumper to mount it to. I have the same question about putting the diff in neutral, lock the steering wheel? Would it cause harm to the drive train?

Tongue weigh is never over 550lbs.
Think about it, 3500lbs sitting ON the trailer hitch? If it did not rip it off the tow vehicle it would be dragging on the ground.
