Default Transmission problem

I'm brand new to this forum but not new to Land Rovers. My Discovery will not move forward in any gear but can go in reverse just fine. No warning and no movement. And the "limp home" mode didn't function. Thoughts?

First, have fault codes pulled. Second, drain the fluid and check it out. If it is burned up(smells like burning crayons or wax), and/or has a metallic shimmer, then you will need a new transmission. Scratch that, because I have seen the same exact issue in a 2000 Range Rover(has the same transmission and falls under the same technical bulletin),I know you will need a new transmission and fluid cooler and cooler line flush.

Thanks for the input. I asked my son (who was driving at the time of the failure) about any particular smell and he mentioned the burnt wax odor. The Disco is on its way to the shop.

Disco Mike, you should relax a bit. It is very important for him to have his transmission ecu fault codes checked first. Also, he has a Discovery and not a 2003-2005 Range Rover. The codes will point to the correct direction. Run the codes against the ZF transmission troubleshooting bulletin and along with the fluid inspection, you will find that a new transmission is in order. 10,166 posts doesn't make you right every time, and if I do happen to be wrong on this, then I am not afraid to admit it. CHECK FAULT CODES BEFORE PROCEEDING ON ANY REPAIRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to have him check and see if a drive line was rotating when in gear which would indicate a but cv joint up front or a diff/axle issue, kind of common with Disco's.
Hope he gets back to us so we hear what failed.
