Default Used engine vs. rebuilt

Can anyone who is experienced with LandRover Discos 2004 help me decide whether I should have my engine replaced with a used one, or just have the engine rebuilt..I am aware of the cost difference..but I want the car to be running as best as it can be when I am finished..also, who do you recommend in the entire US? anyone in California?
thanks

I have went both routes.

The rebuild I did ended up with a tick in the motor which I still have not resolved, but I am pretty sure why I have it. I started with a Block that had problems. I should have used a top hat block.

My wife has a used motor and we have no problems.

If you go used, try and hear it run before they pull the motor. Even if someone gives you a warranty, they won't cover the install and un install of the motor. I have a mechanic that charges $800 for an install, so that could end up being $1600 you are out of pocket on just so you can test another guys motor!

If you plan on keeping it your best bet is rebuilt, the odds are any used motor is going to have a problem or be looking towards one in the future.

if you can afford it this is you best bang for the buck right now:
