Default Warning lights

Some times when going from drive to reverse in my series 2 auto both the Manual mode light and the Sport mode light flash on the dashboard and its like the car is in crawl mode. These light go out when the engine is turned off and stay off when the engine is re started.
Any help with this would be gratefully recieved.

In the RAVE, workshop manual for D2, automatic gearbox, they have a table of codes (usually in the 700's) that the tranny will send. Attached. It sounds like it is being forced into limp mode.

So does your check engine light come on when starting up (bulb test)? Does it come on when this M & S light does? If so, any codes?

Tranny ECU (yes, it has one just for that) monitors battery volts, M & S can come on just for low battery or dirty terminals. So before tranny repair shop, test battery volts, test fluid level, and a fluid / filter change might also be in order if you have not done one in last few years.

If it ONLY does it while shifting from drive to reverse or reverse to drive then it is a faulty XYZ switch, yes, that is the actual name of it.

You can find it cheaper, and some have taken theirs apart and repaired it.

Before buying anything have your battery and alternator tested, if the battery voltage is to low it will do the exact same thing.

Do it do it first thing in the morning or anytime?
