do you really need to have an "impact" (like an impact wrench) to break this nut free? and if you do...then how in the world would you even be able to utilize an impact gun?!?! and when and if i am able to get this fan nut off...how tight do i want to make it on installation?!?!

You need a special fan nut tool for it to work well I found. A standard spanner is at too much of an angle and you can not get enough force on it to make the nut turn. Using a the special bent spanner, it was so easy..
