what is a slipped sleeve? RR 96 HSE
I had all the gaskets; head, manifold (s) gaskets plugs replaced, and liquids; oil, coolent, replaced Finally after a million (exaggeration but more than 20!) trips back to mechanic for "overheating" again issues, even after a new radiator that it was the ground strap that needed to be redone. Then it started up again and before the weekend was out the water pump blew. Was told "without looking" the sleeve slowley slipped and the water seeped into the motor (hence why no leaking obvious) so it was either the sleeve slipped totally or cracked block. motor has 135k. I was told at this point to get a new motor or part it out. Does a rover have a sleeve?

your engine block is made of alluminum.....each cylinder has a steel sleeve or "liner" for the piston to go up & down in . The sleeves are supposed to stay put for good, but It is possible for one of the sleeves to slip downward in the block and can cause damage to different degrees. If you DO have a slipped sleeve & /or a cracked block...you will need a replacement engine as the block may not be affordably repairable
