2010 LR2 HSE Recommended Maintenance
Greetings,
I bought a LR2 HSE in Fall 2010. It was the dealership loaner vehicle and had around 2K miles on it when I got it. Since purchasing, I have lived overseas and CONUS in areas that had robust public transit. Long story short, this 10+ year old car has only about 55K miles on it.
I have gotten regular oil changes, changed the battery, topped off power steering and windshield wiper fluid, replaced the brake pads and rotors around 45K miles, and had a transmission solenoid repair shortly after the factory warranty expired.
I am in the military and will probably be transitioning in the next year or two. I think the car has a lot of life left ad I'd rather keep it running for a few more years than buying a new car. The maintenance schedule is based on miles, but now that i am 10 years in I think I should lean forward. Wondering if anyone had any recommendations on stuff that i can start knocking out?
Thanks!

Post #15 relates to my engine type and model year, here is the thread link:

There are some MX items which LR does not specify, but Volvo does. There are also some items learned the hard way. This post on another forum has details, and I've found it to be accurate. LR's definition of "lifetime fill" means it will fail prematurely due to lack of oil change and then you buy a new one.

Lots of stuff to consider there, but I'd definitely do these, they will prevent/delay costly failures. The intervals are what I've gathered from various forum discussions, and are somewhat conservative.
Thermostat: 8 years, when it fails the pieces can circulate, destroy the coolant pump and maybe get stuck in odd places (to later come loose and destroy your new coolant pump). You're overdue.
Rear Diff: Change oil RIGHT NOW, use a synthetic (such as AMSOIL Severe Gear) vice OEM dino, and then every 5 years/40k. Those diffs have a history. I drilled and tapped a drain plug for best drain, but you don't have to do that. I'd also suggest filling with synth, drive it a few miles, and then drain and fill again to flush all the dino, crud, and particles out.
Front Diff (Xfer case): 5 years/50K. Use OEM fluid. I drilled and tapped a drain plug for best drain, you don't have to do that but it's a huge PITA to suck it out of the fill hole and you won't get it all.
Haldex Oil/Filter: 5 years/40k (maybe 20K with a partial drain with the Haldex in place, you have to remove it to get all the fluid). Use filter/fluid for volvo (available in kit, cheaper than LR). Some people advocate R&R and complete disassembly/cleaning but that's a PITA, I just do the fluid/filter in place. 140K so far, if it ever fails I'll just buy a new one. Also for HALDEX health, make sure you engage the on-demand rear drive on a regular basis. Simply gun it from a standing start on snow, sand, mud, or gravel, rears should engage. Same with ABS, occasionally exercise the valves by hard braking on soft/slick surface.
Also don't forget brake fluid... all those brake parts will be $$$$ if it fails. The rubber brake hoses have a replacement interval of six years... not sure if that's necessary or just OEM CYA but I did it once.

Does anyone have a link to a page listing the maintenance intervals for an LR2? My wife's 2013 is nearing 110k miles, and when getting a code check at an auto parts store, they said there was a number of routine items coming up. The handbook does not go into service intervals, only says:
SERVICE INTERVAL INDICATOR
An upcoming service interval will be notified to
the driver via the message center, as either a
distance or time left until service is due. Once
the distance or time are exceeded, the display
will show a negative value (-) to indicate that a
service is overdue.
One or both types of service interval (distance
and time) may be displayed.
Thank you!

I could be wrong but I don't think those timers are associated with any specific maintenance interval... I think they just count down the miles or months. I think it's 6 months and 5k (or 7k?) miles.
I reset them both after oil changes, just so I get a reminder if I lose track. When I do the oil/filter I look at what else might be due.
