Default 2012 lr2 starter won't turn over

My 2012 LR2 needs a starter replacement. I'm traveling out of town for work in Lusby MD 20657 and looking for a reputable auto repair shop in the area to have it towed. Any suggestions??

It's not a hard job, don't need a specialist shop. Maybe check yelp?

I'd be more concerned with the replacement starter... OEM or OEM rebuild would be ideal.

If it's aftermarket, probably do some research and don't bother with cheapest aftermarket, it's all chineseum junk.

How exactly do you know your starter needs replacement? The number one cause of starter problems is usually not the starter, but rather a weak battery.

Even if it does, it's a rather easy DIY job that doesn't even require you to raise any part of the car. Like Merlin said, if you do need to replace it, get the best you can afford, either OEM or rebuilt OEM.

Ended up having it towed to Land Rover dealership and they put an after market starter on it. Picked the car up that same day and drove 2.5 hours away for work and leaving work the starter did not turn over. After talking to the Land Rover dealer who installed the starter, we came to an agreement to have the car towed to the nearest Land Rover Dealer who today tells me the technician hears the starter click and the battery and electrical checks ok, but there is something else going on that won't allow the starter to turn over. Two different Land Rover service centers, not sure if it's inexperience technicians or not having proper diagnostic tools. How hard can it be to diagnosis a starter? AMAZING - you can't make this stuff up.

Starter clicking could be...

1. This car will have all manner of issues with a weak battery. If they haven't already, get it tested. If it's not real close to rated CCA, or if it's 5+ years old, just replace it.

2. Aftermarket starters are often garbage, especially the lowest cost chinesium units.

Could also be a combination of cheap starter and weak-ish battery. Or bad battery cable or ground connections, but even an idiot technician should catch that.

Since the engine runs once started, it's not an engine mechanical problem.

And honestly, my local LR dealer completely sucks ****, I would never take my car there and I also won't own a LR under warranty because then I'd have to deal with those clowns. Any reputable Euro shop should be able to deal with these cars, the entire drivetrain is actually Volvo anyway.

Why do you ask for advice and then complain when you don't take the advice and the obvious happens? All you had to do was take the battery out and take it to any auto parts shop would have tested it correctly for free. You're right, you can't make this stuff up.

If the "dealer" missed something like this they deserved to be put out of business.

I had similar symptoms. There was some kind of water and detritus buildup by the computer module in the engine compartment (i think below the windshield). Mechanic cleaned it out and it has been running fine.
