Default 2013 LR2 will not start after getting gas

Hello. I have been dealing with this issue for about 6 months. Now every time I get gas my car will not start. I took it to get fixed and he changed the battery. It starts fine until I fill up. At the pump I can play with it and hold the start button and give it gas and eventually it starts if I throw it in drive when I hear it start to turn over. It is so frustrating. Any ideas what this could be?

I’m afraid at this point I have more questions than answers.
1. are you “topping off”, possibly triggering an emissions sensor?
2. is the fuel tank cap making the air tight seal? also triggers a sensor.
3. “giving it gas” shouldn’t be necessary during the start cycle. Are you flooding it?
4. Is it worse in winter?
5. gasoline or diesel? premium fuel?
6. water in the tank? when’s the last time you put some gas line antifreeze through it?

And most importantly, what codes are you throwing and is the engine light on?
I’m afraid I just don’t have enough info to go on. And it isn’t helpful not to know what part of the world your in nor what specific vehicle you have.

Thank you so much for looking into my issue further.

1. are you “topping off”, possibly triggering an emissions sensor?
I rarely ever let my tank get below 1/4 empty but this happens at all levels of fullness

2. is the fuel tank cap making the air tight seal? also triggers a sensor?
actually.. the last couple time the cap has been so sealed that I can hardly turn it .. it is so stuck!

3. “giving it gas” shouldn’t be necessary during the start cycle. Are you flooding it?
I have found today that the only way to get it started after fueling is if I push in the break with left foot while using my right foot to rev the engine on the gas pedal while also holding the start button.

4. Is it worse in winter?
this seems to have gotten worse in the cold weather yes but it was happening in the summer months

5. gasoline or diesel? premium fuel?
premium gas

6. water in the tank? when’s the last time you put some gas line antifreeze through it?
I have never done this but it recently is asking for antifreeze .. may mean something

And most importantly, what codes are you throwing and is the engine light on?
no engine lights are being shown

It sound like the fuel system purge valve or emissions pump are not working right.

Agreed @flybd5 ... but no codes??
And ONLY during refueling??
Blocked charcoal canister? I'd expect a fault light on the emissions for that.

Something to ponder over beer and crabcakes... sadly, I'm not in Maryland.

I get the exact same symptoms, but I know I need to change my purge valve (bought it, too lazy and too cold to get to it right now). I have changed the canister already and did the smoke test and yes, I have a code, but if it happens only after refueling I can't think of any other reason. What I do is floor the accelerator when starting and as soon as it starts I let off the pedal.

First, JIC, don't put coolant/antifreeze into the gas tank! The reservoir is in the engine compartment and is the clear tank on the left, fill to high level line.
Read this but it's long, it could be the Crank Position Sensor?

Whoa! The car is asking for antifreeze and you think it has to do with the gasoline tank???!!! That's the ENGINE COOLANT warning, it means your reservoir of coolant in the engine compartment is low! You run the risk of overheating and permanently damaging your engine if you don't deal with that immediately!
