Default 2014 LR2 CPO, What should I be worried about?

All,

I joined this forum to hopefully gain a little insight into the true problems and cost of ownership of an LR2. The Land Rover Dealer near me has three CPO LR2 vehicles with under 5,000 miles and under $30K (the vehicles were service loaners). I had been looking for a Grand Cherokee for my wife, but she's always wanted a Land Rover, and quite frankly these three are actually less expensive than the Grand Cherokees and with fewer miles. We live in Colorado so having true off-road capability is important to us, but from what I've watched/read, it looks like these LR2s will be just fine for what we do (minimal trail excursions).

So, will the CPO warranty cover most things that I should be worried about? Have the differential problems been addressed in the newer models? What are the standard maintenance costs like? Has anyone heard of issues with the inline 4 turbo as I know it is a newer engine for the LR2s.

ANY information would be a terrific help! THANK YOU!

Sounds like a good deal.

Is the CPO warranty honored only at that particular dealership where you purchase the vehicle, or is it a mfg warranty that is honored at all LR dealerships nationwide?

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, the CPO warranty is a factory warranty that will be honored at all LR dealers nationwide.

I'm mostly concerned about what can break that won't be covered by the extended warranty. The remaining term of the warranty, 5 years and up to 100K miles, will be plenty, but I'm just worried about the "exceptions" to the warranty.

I feel like $30K is bargain considering the condition and miles on these even though they are the base model.

If this 5 year, 100K factory warranty is included in the $30K price, it sounds like a very good deal. You might ask if they include a loaner car for covered repairs.

The 2014 model year is really too new to get much useful feedback from owners. The repair problems we commonly read about in this forum (e.g., rear diff, alternator, starter motor) happen within the time and mileage limits of your warranty.

Most of the money you spend will not be for repairs but for normal maintenance and wear items (tune-ups, brakes, tires, etc.).

Hi Again,

Yes, the warranty is included in the price. It's good to know that most big things occur during the warranty period.

Out of curiosity, how much does the usual Land Rover dealer charge for the basic maintenance items like an Oil Change, Tire Rotation, Brakes, Fluid Flushes, etc?

I'm guessing either way it will be sticker shock at the the dealer as I have a Charger and she has a Ford Escape...which is why she likes the LR2 so much.

My LR dealer follows the factory maintenance schedule very strictly. It will be in your owners manual. The minor oil changes are approx $225 and the major tune-ups are approx $800, with an intermediate service in between. But prices vary with labor costs which are regional, so your dealer prices may be more or less. I also receive coupons in the mail from my dealer that provide savings on some of the work.

For everything except tires, brakes, and battery replacement, you really are locked into the dealer for service. They have the LR service bulletins, analyzers, and software patches that your neighborhood mechanic does not have.

My dealer also provides a free loaner car for the intermediate service and higher. This might be a courtesy every Land Rover dealer offers. Since my dealer is also a Jaguar dealer, I got to drive a $70K Jaguar sedan during one service when all their LR2 loaners were checked out to other customers.
