Default Alternator Gearbox

Guys I am new to this. I had a non authorized repair shop tell me that I have what sounds like a bearing sqealing from my alternator gearbox! Is there such a thing on the 2008 LR2 SE 6cyl 3.2Liter?

It's likely the alternator pulley bolt that came loose, it's a known issue. Do a search here, for it.

Volvo did something really stupid, making the alternator gear-driven instead of belt-driven, and turning a simple replacement job into a nightmare that costs an average $800 in labor. It might be as simple as a loose bolt, but to get to it you damn near have to disassemble the front of the engine.
