help with accessory wiring
Hi!
I'm working on installing a HomeLink garage door opener/transmitter in my headliner above the driver's side visor on my 2008 LR2. There is plenty of room between the headliner and the roof for the actual device, which I've already installed.
The power needs are very small. The device came with a 1amp inline fuse. I want to wire it to a switched power source that is only powered when the key is in the ignition and the ignition is on (engine off) so somebody can't just open the door and press the button to open my garage door. I've run the power wire down the passenger side a-pillar toward the fuse box under the dash. I have the wiring diagrams but wasn't very clear on which fuse positions are switched with the key on versus those that are live with the door open. I can work on identifying those by connecting my voltmeter to a fuse tap then waiting for the system to power down and checking each one at a time but I just haven't had time to do that.
I was hoping to save a little time and see if anyone on here might already have that knowledge to share!
Thanks!

You'll have to test to verify, but several good candidates appear to be...
F1 Wipers
F8 Cluster
F10 Mirrors(?)
F14 Washer
F20 Rear Wiper
F27 A/C
These are labelled on the inside of the fuse cover.

I just went out and tested each fuse position and found that F2, F3, F4, and F5 are the only switched fuses. Luckily, according to the manual F5 is not used by any circuits and happily it is powered with ignition on and not powered with ignition off. So, I think that may be my winner!
I don't think that a garage door opener would draw any power when not in use but you would want to give it 24/7 power regardless of the on/off status of the vehicle, no?
The important part is that I don't want the opener to be powered full time. If I leave the car unlocked and parked outside I wouldn't want someone to jump in and use the buttons to open the garage door. With the key in and ignition on, presumably it's me in the car and I can then open my garage.
