How to drain fuel tank

Default How to drain fuel tank

Husband accidentally filled my 2010 LR2 with diesel, how can we drain the tank

There is no drain for it. You will have to drop the tank, remove the fuel pump and empty it through there. You can't siphon it through the fill cap either, there is a device inside the tank filling opening that prevents you from doing that so someone cannot steal your fuel.

Yeah, have to drop it to drain.

Although if you're creative enough you could probably hook up a hose to some point in the fuel system and power up the pump to empty it out. That's probably what I would do, but would need to divert a fuel line somewhere and possibly tap into the wires to the pump to power it... not sure how long the pump will run without the engine on, and you *really* don't want to run the engine.

And when you drop it have someone install a drain plug at the lowest point in the tank to husband-proof your car.

I’d siphon it out as best I could, first. Probably not with a cigar in mouth ;-)
