Suggest you put a clamp meter (ammeter) on the positive battery cable going from the battery to the starter/alternator (when the engine is off). If you see current flowing, then one of those components is faulty and draining your battery. The most likely culprit would be a bad diode in the alternator. Less common is a bad starter.

In the back of my mind I didn't rule that out (bad diode on the alternator) but wasn't sure how to check for it, thanks I'll get a clamp meter ordered. I've read that it's a major undertaking to R&R so fingers crossed, the charging system still outputs over 14 volts more like 14.5 or so. Thank you so much..

The fact that a starter or alternator still works doesn't mean that it can't have a small short or failure that results in a current draw.

Default Battery Drain tracked down at last!!

Well, after a lot of time and effort tracking down I have finally identified that by pulling fuse F29 the drain disappears!

F29 supplies the audio system and the fuse is not in the passenger foot well fuse box but located in an individual fuse holder clipped to the bodywork just above the fuse box ( need to stand on your head to see it!!!!)

haven’t yet decided what do do about not having a radio or clock but I think I can live with that….. does any one know if there is a canbus module controlling the audio system?? If there is my guess is that the module doesn’t close down fully when the car is locked… hence the drain.

Google bluetooth module and FL2. Get a MOST bypass from Amazon. It could also be the Sat system or both. Go over to freel2.com and search for bluetooth module replacement and also MOST bypass.

You could also just get a fuse jumper, add a switch (and fuse holder!) inline so you can turn it off when not in use.

With a little more work you could add a relay powered by the accessory power so as to switch on the F29 when the ignition is on.

Freel2,

I reactivated my Satellite Radio module.

I did this because my Bluetooth module failed and I needed to use the Loop Back to bypass it.

It took 20 minutes to do this.

Note: I bought another LOOPBACK and both modules are bypassed.

Its been 3 years and I've had no battery issues

Good Luck

Paul

Fuse 29 is unused according to the service manual, which means someone added some third party device to your vehicle and is powering it through that fuse. Track down the wiring and you will have found the culprit.

Hmm.

0.25A (250 mA) is a big draw just to keep something in standby or memory preservation.

Maybe it's something like a lojack?
