Ohh okay, gotcha. The first guy I had look at this issue told me this was “a ticking time bomb” even after fixing the camshaft because there has been metal shrapnel being sent through the motor with this issue. The second guy I had look at this has more experience with Land Rovers and this issue. He contends that the screen protecting trash and garbage from getting back into the oil pump would also catch any metal piece...so assuming the screen is intact it is no longer a “ticking time bomb” after fixing the camshaft.

idk enough about engines myself to personally form an opinion about random metal pieces possibly being just available to seize the engine at any given moment like the first guy said...also curious on others thoughts

Unless I missed something, it affects LR2s from 2011 and up.........mine is a 2008, not sure what year yours is but I thought it was also 2008?

Yes, the maintenance manual says this: 'The fabricated steel oil pick-up is immersed in the oil reservoir to provide a supply to the oil pump during all normal vehicle
attitudes. A mesh screen in the intake prevents debris from entering the oil system.'

The camshafts are made of steel, which is magnetic, so I would suggest you change the oil drain plug with one that has a magnet, like this one, which made in USA.

Amazon Amazon

Don't forget to order a new crush washer as well and install it with the plug. Then when you next change your oil you can ask the mech to screen it through a fine mesh to see what you can see, and examine the plug to see if it picked up any metal. In between oil changes it will also help protect the engine from that stray metal.

This should pick up any stray pieces of metal that are in the sump. The mesh screen will require your opening the engine to get to it, and anyway I doubt it holds any metal there.

Yes. But whether the service bulletin says anything about my year model, I still pay close attention.

In the original post it was mentioned that it was a 2013 LR2, so that would be the 4-cycl ecoboost engine?

If that's correct then I can ignore this for my 2008.

This is interesting - if there is a technical service bulletin and it's a known issue, did LR compensate you in any way or did you have to pay full price? Would you mind sharing how much it cost to repair? I wonder if they can determine if an LR2 has this before something bad happens.
