Default What bad upper engine mounts/insulators look like...

I just changed my upper engine mounts (what LR calls "insulators") They were most definitely shot. For those of you wondering what I mean by that, here's the signs.

This mount is below the arm-style mount at the top of the engine. It bolts to the frame, and a bracket that bolts in four places to the engine has a single bolt to this. On the left is obviously the new mount, on the right the old mount. Definitely shot.

And this is the old arm-style mount. I had changed it two years ago but because I did not know the lower one was shot it died an early death. You should not be able to see through the rubber.

Tomorrow I will change the lower mount, will post a pic of that when I am done.

Yes a bad upper mount strongly implies bad lower mount(s). At this point (age and mileage) I'd just replace all.

Replacing mounts will notably improving shifting, as will replacing auto-trans fluid.
