Default What do I need to know about the '14 LR2?

Hello,

I'm new here and looking to be a first time LR owner. I've always been turned off from LR because of the mechanical issues but I assume I can get better info here.

I'm looking to get a '14 LR2 with under 10k miles and I'm looking for advice from this excellent forum.

How many miles should I expect to get from this car while properly maintained?
Advice on proper upkeep?
What is a good price point? Say if it's listed for $32k what should I be able to get it for?
What about basic care such as oil change, tire cost, and rotate and balance. Any specialty cost involved or can it be done at the normal chain stores?
Any other advice and help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The LR2 model (which shares major components with the Volvo S80) came out in 2007/2008, so it's still too new to know how many miles it will get in its lifetime. The engine changed in the 2013 (?) model to a 4-cyl so that probably has its own lifetime profile separate from the v6.

For upkeep, just follow the factory maintenance schedule which is very specific.

Can't comment on price as that tends to be influenced by regional/local factors.

I get all my routine maintenance done by the dealer with a few exceptions. You need the dealer at least for software updates and recalls. I read somewhere that Jiffy Lube would not accept the LR2 for a routine oil change because you need to remove the skid plate to access the oil drain plug (I don't know if this is true). The exceptions to dealer service are tires, brakes, and battery. Everything else I would stick with the dealer, but I'm sure you would save money at the chain stores if you are willing to take the risk.

Thanks!

Any others with input would be appreciated. Also, I'm having a hard time finding what I'm looking for in my area. I've reached out to the local LR dealer but if there is something else I can please let me know.

Thanks again!

After some reading this evening I have a dilemma. Is '15 the last year of the LR2? It looks like it is and they are switching over to the Discovery Sport. If so, would you go with the LR2 or the new Disco Sport?

I have 2008, which I like but if I get another I'll probably find a used older LR2 (pre-2013?) which has the 6 cyl engine. The turbo 4 in the new ones sounds too high strung for a truck (turbo lag is bad).

I noticed the 4 cylinder engine as well and have some concerns about get up and go. Since you mentioned the 6 cylinder, I found '12 hse lux with 16k miles for $29k. This appears to be a good price?
