Default wiring to fuse box for 5v

I'm adding a tablet to my 08 lr2 in the space where the cubby hole is,i have a tablet that fits perfectly. I would like it to be switched on and off with the car, part of it's usage is as a gps. The tablet requires 5v does anyone know what i can use to wire that into the fuse box by the passenger seat?

Since the vehicle electrical system is 14.2 volts, you'll need some sort of adapter/regulator. They are pretty common.

If you say so, but then all the 12 volt plug in gadgets like GPS and camera chargers, and phone chargers would not work.

You could basically wire an another cigarette lighter with the charger in the socket and placed out of the way. But you will never get it to shut off by itself cause the ipad is separate completely. plus you need to wire in an additional fuse to protect that circuit.

Search for a mini fuse circuit tap and wire it to an extra 12vdc outlet. Then use a car charger designed for the tablet. I did this for my GPS unit that I mounted in the cubby hole. The cigarette lighter IS 12 volts....it's the item you plug into it that reduces the voltage to correct level if needed....like most GPS and USB charged devices. You will have to take into account what Rovin4life said. You will have to manually turn off the tablet unless it's a daily driver, then tablet being in standby won't matter for tablet's battery. My garmin automatically turns off when it detects that it has lost voltage when I turn off the car, and comes on automatically when I turn on the car. I hid everything in the panel on the left side of the front passenger seat (panel by passengers left foot). I used string and wire to thread the garmins plug to the cubby hole. All wires are hidden and easy to remove if I sell/trade the vehicle.
