Default 06 LR3 Tire Recommendations / Service Rating?

06 LR3 V6 @ 41k miles

Have read several threads on here about suggested tires. After LR replaced the factory tires due to early wear at less thank 10k miles, i'm now around 41k (with the help of the realignment tech bulletins).

My general knowledge of tires is somewhat limited. My wife drives the LR3 95% of the time - all road/highway. We live in Cleveland, OH , so wet/snow conditions are a concern; would like a long tread life and quiet ride. After reading all the posts, I'm leaning towards the GY Silent Armour that seem to have good recommendations.

The factory tires are 255/60/18...changing to the GY SA would be 265/60/18. A few questions:
1. will changing the tire size affect any warraties (though we'll be out of warranty soon)?
2. the GY SA have a lower service rating (109 vs. 112 on the factory tire) - should this be a concern? Again, warranty issue? Would the dealership install these or likely have to go to a independent tire shop?
3. Worth $40 for Nitrogen inflation?

Thanks much for any thoughts/advice.

No I have 285-60-18 and no issues

I would only go to an independent you will pay thru the nose otherwise.
3. Worth $40 for Nitrogen inflation?
Biggest scam in the tire industry the air you breath is over 70% nitrogen allready.

Thanks, drzjoint

Would you worry about the slightly lower load rating/index? 109 vs. stock 112. I think it's about 200# less per tire (2270 vs. 2470). Any other suggestions on tires (instead of the GY Silent Armours)? Thanks again.

Just my opinion, but I've been looking on TireRack.com and found the 265-60-18 and 275-60-18 tires that was consistantly in the top two was the Firestone Destination AT with a 60,000 mile warranty. They ranked superior in all catagories but one and was only exceptional in that catagory (ice traction).

On one of these forums, some left coast guys were running the FS Destination MTs and reporting excelent offroad results. I went to the local FS store and found they also have the same tire in LE for highway, even less noise. All are affordably priced.

Lot of choices, but after seeing what these Wranglers have done, I may be done with GY.

Default Bfg?

I'm a little sketchy on the GY's as well after seeing how poor the factory's did. I understand that it is indeed a different tire from the SA's but don't know if the SA's are aggressive enough.

In looking through various forums, I don't see anyone talking about the BFG AT's. I was thinking about getting them for my LR3. I had Michelin LTX AT's on my D1 and they performed very well. The only reason I got them over the BFG's at the time was due to price.

Anyone running on the BFG's on their LR3?

Default No worries

The GY SA is excellent as a trade-off tire. They are outstanding on the road and do a good job off road.

The load rating is not an issue. I had to have mine installed at the dealer (they liked them and confirmed the load rating question), because the other tire places (Firestone) that could lift the LR3 refused to put a third party tire on.
