Hello Everyone,

my Name is Erick and I have had my LR3 for almost a year now. I am from Florida and I am currently having an issue with the transmission. It seems to slip or get stuck on the 4th gear at times and when I plugged in the computer, it has the code P0741, Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance/ Stuck Off. I am positive it has to do with one of the pistons, I just need someones expertise and experience to tell me what I can do about it? How much will it cost to fix? Can I do it myself? what parts would I need to buy? Is it worth just getting a new/used transmission? Is the problem fixable enough to repair and keep my current transmission? What kind of issues could it be? How much would a mechanic for this issue cost? anyone that has had this code on their LR3 before and what did they do about it? Any advice one what I should do? I have not had any other problems with the truck it just gets annoying to be driving with the push back that the truck seems to give during the 4th gear.

 

Have you serviced the transmission with new fluid and filter? I'd start there.

 

I would think its a solenoid issue not a piston.

 

The previous owner did not inform me about servicing the transmission so I will definitely start there. I got a quote from a local Land rover specialist mechanic to do this for $1141. I think that is a little to expensive just change to change the fluid and filter. The guy also mentioned I would have to change out the all the bolts and other things. It sounds legit but also unnecessary. I would rather buy everything myself which cost around $200 for the filter, fluid, etc.

 

Yeah, that's pretty pricy. It's not that bad of a job to do yourself - a set of low profile torx bits may help. I used the Atlantic British conversion kit and was happy with it. Just fyi, my mechanic quoted me about $350 for labor to do this job, converting the old style to new. He does have experience with these transmissions though. The most important thing is getting the fluid refill procedure right - you can't just fill it and go. Have to add the final amount of fluid with the engine running and transmission up to operating temp. Welding gloves help lol.

 

Depends on how they are doing it, but does seem rather high on the price By the book a cross member has to come down, trans supported, etc. By the book its a bit of a pain. The DIY method is faster, easier and described over and over on forums. As for new bolts, yes if one is doing the DIY method and converting to a metal pan. When I helped a buddy do his, his trans pan bolts were a nightmare. Mine easy, neighbors also easy. But his were seized and it turned into a 1.5 day project.
