Default 2006 LR 3 with leaking trans cooler line hoses

Hello everyone,
So I just started experiencing leaking on the ends of the rubber hoses on my trans cooler lines on my 2006 LR 3, with about 176k on odometer. I have tightened the clamps but after a few days they start leaking again. Does anyone know if you can just replace the clamps, or are they part of the hose assembly? And I can’t quite tell if the rubber part is shot or if the clamps are just worn out. I saw one post on changing out the lines and it looks like a pain in the you know what.
Thanks for any advice!

The clamps themselves are not likely the issue. The hoses break down from age and need replacement and they usually leak at the crimped part too. The material is just too soft now and tightening more may result in failure. Replacing the lines is not easy and best done with body off since the rubber part is connected to the aluminum lines and run past the engine to the transmission. But there is an easier solution. You can cut the crimps to free the rubber hose form the aluminum lines and simply install just the new hose portion.

You will need hose, a hose bending spring kit, heat gun and various tools. This is because you probably want to make short custom hoes to get proper routing.

Thank you for the reply and I was wondering if maybe the rubber was cracked and leaking. And definitely much easier to just replace the rubber part. I’m wondering if maybe I could just cut the end of the rubber hose part, maybe halfway and put in a metal ****** splice, then put another piece of hose on to complete to radiator. Then just put new clamps on.

Possible. Or even just cut the trans lines before the press fitting but you would have to flare whatever you do. PSI can reach 100 under higher RPMs and the last thing you want is a line blowing off. This is why there is a press fitting used where the rubber and aluminum meet, much like power steering lines which have high pressure.

Good point about the pressure. I think I will probably bite the bullet and get the new lines and follow the steps another person posted about how to get them on and snake them through. He gives a lot of good tips from his experience that should make it easier. First I’ll get under there and see if I can follow what he describes, lol. Thanks again!
