Default 2006 LR3 transmission problems

New owner of a 2006 LR3 with 68,000 miles on it and new to this forum. I bought this from a dealer out of state and had it shipped so i didnt have the option of driving and the dealer never mentioned this of course. With this being said the car is great but when i come to a stop light the transmission slips, not all the time, occasionally. This car wasnt driven much with the low miles so im guessing it sat often. Is there a adjustment that needs to take place..?? Should i take it to the dealership or is this something i can do myself..?? Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks Brandon

Change the fluid and filter, as to whether or not you can do it yourself it depends on if you have the tools and the willpower.

I dont understand, the transmission should "slip" when coming to a stop or you would not be able to stop without dropping into neutral. Thats sorta how the torque convertor works, its lets the transmission essentially slip while in gear. Maybe you can better describe the issue. Does it fell more like a late shift (slight jerk) or is this a take-off issue when leaving the light/stop sign?

The transmission is "sealed" and there's no dip-stick to check the fluid and, apparently one should never have to replace this but.... I had this same problem and I replaced the transmission pan/filter/gasket (https://www.roverparts.com/Parts/LR007474) and I no longer had any issues like you described.

Dont ever go with that kit. Thats OEM and the original pan is plastic with integrated filter. Its very difficult to remove/install those. Most people switch to a metal pan with separate filter. To remove the old one, saw off the plastic neck. Then with the new one there is no clearance issue which involved dropping cross members and such.

This is the sorta kit you want. You DO need a different gasket and bolts the converting. Bolt lengths are not the same. So you need a pan, bolts, filter and gasket. Verify the transmission you have before getting the kit. The one linked below may or may not work.

And a page loaded with great info:

I will add that Mercon SP is a much, much less expensive alternative to LifeGuard 6 fluid. Its a dead horse debate on if they are the same or not, but actual analysis says they are made the same way. One made by Shell for Ford the other by, I forget, in Europe for ZF. And plenty of ZF owners have used SP in their 6-speed transmission with no issues.
