Default Bought an LR3 with no keys

Hey gang. I won an auction for an lr3, small issue is it has no keys. I have a gap tool and a blank key from ali express on hand that I should be able to program. What’s the best route to get the blade cut to match existing locks? Is the dealer my only option?

thanks in advance.

You need a working key to program a new one. You will have to contact a dealer to get a new key, then you can program copies from that.

Wow, that's a good deal. Usually a programmed dealer key is over $400. Also there is a limit on key programing I think. At least with the LR4 there is, I think up to four max maybe? I forget.

That’s just for a cut key without programming. The LR service department said they couldn’t get me in for a programming until the end of October because they are overwhelmed with all the Californians moving to Boise, so I spent a small fortune on an Autel im608 unit to program a new key myself using its “lost keys” function and delete the old keys.

The key may not work then, from what I've found you need a fully functional key to make your copies from. The dealer should be able to get you a working key, they can get them preprogrammed. Let us know if you get it to work without dealer programming.

He said its not a programmed key, just the physical part was cut based on the VIN which is very doable. The Autel im608 can in fact program keys on the LR3 with no working key present.
