Default Brake problem on Disco 3

I have a automatic Discovery 3 2006 with the 2.7 Liter diesel. I am in Brisbane Australia (maybe that makes a difference lol)
The problem i am having is with the brakes. The symptoms are as follows.

1) When you put your foot on the brake they work normally for a sec or so and then there is just no power boosting. They feel like unassisted disc brakes
2) going in reverse down a hill seems to be worse

I have pumped the pedal with car off and the pedal doesn't pump up so i have ruled out air in the lines.

I have started the car with my foot on the brake pedal and it drops so booster seems okay

I have disconnected the vacuum line from the booster and there is vacuum when running but doesn't seem very strong.

I have let the car idle and turned it off waited a minute and disconnected the vacuum line and there is still vacuum in the booster.

So i think it maybe that the inline check valve is faulty ( how do i check it or do i just replace it)

Or could it be the vacuum pump? is there any way of checking it that doesn't involve 27 hours work lol

Please help me if you can as i need to get it fixed ASAP as my niece who is a para equestrian needs to head off to a competition in Sydney later this week which is 1000 km away

Thanks

Damien

Default Bodsy's Brake Bible

I think what you are making reference to is a problem that LR sort of issued a recall on in the UK. You have a diesel and for some reason if I recall properly, oil is sucked from somewhere into the brake booster and then the power part of the brakes does not work. That kind of sounds like the problem. I will see what I can find and post back in an hour or so.

While I am looking, you can download Bodsy's Brake Bible v1.6a.

As of when I last looked, there has been over 12,000 views/downloads of his free 36 page pdf.I see he now has a French edition as well.

The pdf does not address the issue you have but tells everything else one needs to know about the various braking systems on the three - there are more than one I might add.

Default A couple of threads re oil in the brake booster.

This is a 13 page thread on the sort of recall. I am pretty sure that is the problem you have.

DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - UK recalls - 2007/08 HPF Pump - 2006/09 Brake Vacuum Assist

Another thread:

I will look for some threads on the Australia forum as well and post back when I find them.

Default Australian Government Recall notice

This recall notice is pretty clear and easy to understand - odd, given that it is your taxpayer money at work.

Land Rover?Discovery 3 TDV6 and Range Rover Sport TDV6 diesel vehicles (this recall has been extended please see PRA 2010/11848)

Hi Damien,
Have you come right with your problem?
I have the exact same problem and I also think that the problem might be the check valve.
I would appreciate some help in this regard.
Thanx
