Brakes: Pads or Pads and Rotors?
Hi All,
After reading all the posts on a 4-page search, I still don't have an answer so I'm appealing to the group.
Truck is coming due for pads. Do I replace the rotors at the same time? Some posts say yes, some say no.
I have not activated the sensors (and will do them anyway) and this is purely preventative. No brake shudder when stopping and if I recall right, discs are only 3-years old (maybe).

You could measure the rotors and see what kind of life they have left. Or If you don’t want to spend the money and your rotors are in good shape. Just replace the pads.
I just upgraded my rotors and pads to EBC green stuff with drilled and slotted rotors. There is noticeably greater stopping force with the front end upgrade from EBC.

The book answer vs everyday life
The service manual section 206-03 for the front discs says service limit is 27 mm and 206-04 for the rear discs says service limit is 17 mm. The service limit for both front and back pads is 3 mm and the sensors are set off at 75% of wear.
I use a "C" type micrometer to measure the rotor and a normal micrometer for the pads. Over time I have seen based upon my driving habits and mileage that I replace the pads every 12 months and the rotors every 24 months.
Bottom line is same as the others have said.... inspect regularly and replace as needed.
I know it is for a D4 but the attached document may help you look for things and help keep up on service and repairs It is not the normal service schedule list of things, just a general guide for a good "look over" every few months
Hope this helps.
