Carplay add to 2008 LR3 SE
My car does not have the navigation and I simply want wireless carplay with minimal install headaches. Has anyone installed or know anything about the Jensen JC7DM? I was thinking this would be an easy install if I spliced into the OEM unit power and spliced into the Aux wires on the back of the unit.

No experience with Jensen stuff, but seems feasible. Issue you will have is the mounting. You could get a off the shelf (off amazon) bracket cage that the Jensen will mount into and then fab a mount for it with fiberglass that will fit perfectly into the "NAV hole" and find a way to secure it.
I did put a Pioneer head unit in my LR3 (replaced the whole factory headunit) and could not be unhappier. The typical mounting brackets you would buy makes the Pioneer headunit point straight ahead instead of tilted like the factory headunit and I have to basically take my eyes off the road and tilt my head down to see it.
I will be replacing it with either a Alpine or Kenwood headunit that has a floating screen that can be positioned any way I want.

Good to know on the Pioneer. I don't want to be looking down so that upper cubby is the perfect place in my mind. I may just bite the bullet and try it. Thequality of the Aux connection is one of my hesitations. I'm hoping to get some input on that.
I am not keen on the aux input either. I mean it is acceptable but the input is somehow limited volume-wise. So full volume on FM is much louder than anything on aux input. I am not sure if anything can be done tho. I think boosting it would lead to distortions. Of course the only other option would be something over MOST but I know of no modules that will work for audio input over MOST besides something like the iPod module found on the LR4 and up. I could get mine on network just fine but it was not recognized as an audio source, even by my LR4 nav display which shows all the audio inputs out there. I am pretty sure GAP could have made it work but basically adding the module to the list of "approved" devices on the network, but they did not seem interested. But input over MOST could give true surround sound.
Anyway.... I did install one of these. They sell for about $250 but come in many models and configurations. Some as cheap as $170 but have limited RAM, etc.

In that thread I ended up returning it because it would never turn off when the truck turned off. Just a sudden issue that the seller did not seem to understand how to fix. Then I was going to order another and due to tariffs the price went WAY up. Well a couple weeks ago, not things have settled, I ordered another from a different seller. Was getting sick on the hole in my dash. And I really did like the integration to the LR3 beyond just having nice maps and music. Should arrive in a week or so. Even with your dash configuration install is possible by timing the dash as they did in the factory to fit the nav display. These do not use the MOST network but do work on the CAN bus network to pull the parking sensor data, steering angle, read the steering controls, 4x4 info, etc.

If you want to fix the AUX input issue, this is the way!
