Snorkel arrived today. Shipping was very fast. It looks to be decent quality- good thickness and feel to the plastic, hardware looks solid. IT COMES WITH NO INSTRUCTIONS. So... I watched a YouTube on installing an ARB snorkel which at least gave me some general information. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

Installed the snorkel today. I have never looked at an OEM up close so I can't give a comparison but I can say that the OEM instructions from Niver39 were spot on. The fit was good and the snorkel is mounted solidly. I made 2 changes- 1. instead of using the brass sleeves that come with the kit I used a nut and washer to secure the main body of the snorkel to the fender and 2. instead of using a brass sleeve on the window pillar I used a self tapping screw with a washer. Much more solid and easier as well. TIP: use some epoxy on the washer and nut for the body to hold it to the inside of the fender. Saves you trying to get your arm up there through the wheel well.

Obviously it fits perfectly for the 4.4 V8. No worries there. I don't know why the kit comes with 2 hose clamps. I could not see a use for them. The unit seals pretty well but if you are planning on deep water crossings I would use some silicone as well. (The ARB has a better system for sealing the intake) There are 4 screws you will need to supply. They are the ones to hold the grill onto the snorkel inlet. Some basic little metal screws worked fine.

All in all I would definitely say this was worth $177.00. I just could not see spending $700.00+ on an OEM.

I hope this has helped. Please let me know if you have any questions.

BTW- I am absolutely positive that I gained 30hp and that this acts as a ram air induction. Absolutely positive.

That's a good looking snorkel it looks a lot like my oem one! I'm happy those instructions helped. I wish I would have picked one of these up instead of paying $550 for mine on eBay. 😞

Does anybody happen to own a Safari/ARB snorkel that can comment on how they achieve their watertight seal? I know they run a hose from the RAI through the opening in the fender to the filter box, but if I recall correctly, there is a drainage hole in the bottom of the filter box. Seems to me that it wouldn't be water tight if you still have a hole that lets water into the filter box? Or am I missing something?

BTW ericcooke, you've convinced me... this is my next mod. Thanks for taking the gamble for the benefit of all here! I'm a little concerned about the UV degradation of the plastic for this snorkel, but then I think about the fact that I could buy 4 of these for the price of 1 OEM and I feel okay again.

Snorkel body is sealed to the output bit that pokes in through the fender, then a rubber hose is run from snorkel body/neck to airbox, hose is clamped both to the snorkel body (sealed), and to a fitting that you rivet into the sheet metal @ engine bay. Airbox then plugs into this new fitting with loads of sikaflex in a neat joint, all holes in airbox are sikaflex sealed (including the drain hole you mention, I have been meaning to add a manual drain valve or a check). The only way into the airbox now is through the head of the snorkel. Only the Safari is a true snorkel, the OEM/mantec is a RAI unless people decided to add to what the factory gave them (no hose that connects from the RAI to the airbox, same open hallway inside the fender).

IMO get a real safari one. Plastic quality is excellent, hardware is excellent, if you do the install right (need to buy some sikaflex and drill bits), it makes for a neat snorkel. Everyone says they could just buy a few for the price of safari but if you've ever done a D3 snorkel install... you won't want to repeat the affair. Buy once cry once. NO extra horsepower unfortunately folks. Air filters last a bit longer though If any of you ever do a safari and run into trouble shoot me a PM, I've been there... and the directions are not very clear at times...
