Common LR3 gremlins vs. DII gremlins
Hello folks,
Have been reading the DII forums for a while.. I know all to well about the Headgaskets being done @ 80 k, the Front drive shaft issue, the aggressive tranny and diff fluid change outs etc..
What are some common problems for a 5 or 6 year old LR3?
Anything fatal that I need to watch out for while shopping for these?
Thanks,
Donkey

The fact that owner maintained only at the factory level, which is like 10 years on diff fluids, etc. LR3 is different animal, much more electronics, go ahead and put new battery in any one you buy. Since you will likely spend more for this than a new IPhone, spring for indy mechanical inspection.
Here is the maintenance schedule, whole manual is a free download also.

The divetrain is rock solid (except possible diff issues). There are no headgasket, cylinder liner, transmissions, transfer case, driveline, CV joint, window regulators, overheating, fuel pump, etc issues. You just don't hear about major driveline problems. Some early model years are more likely to have diff issues.
Known weak point is probably the air compressor. IMO they last a good amount of time but you will need to replace it eventually. Also since they are heavy you will need to do A-arm bushings, tie rod ends pretty frequently (like ever 40-50k). And you'll wear through brakes and tires more quickly.
If you get one, change all the fluids, get a new battery and have some fun.
