Coolant drain, only about 3 quarts out. What am I doing wrong?

I was going to drain the coolant and refill my 2006 LR3 SE (4.4L V8) with some fresh DEX-COOL. What is the correct way to drain? I only got about 3 quarts out (4 at the most). I was expected double that.
I opened the drain on the radiator (bottom on passenger side) and got out about 3 quarts of fluid. I had the bleeder valve open and cap off. Seeing that not much came out I then went to the drivers side and removed the hose at the bottom of the radiator and nothing came out.
I assume there is a proper way to drain that I am missing and can't find on the internet?

OK, I think I answered my question. I am dumb ***, probably no surprise there. In my new Land Rover ownership naivety I did not properly use the bleed valve under the engine cover.
Hopefully others looking to do this can benefit from this. Properly unscrew the bleeder valve under the engine. Look at threads online and it will show you what it looks like.

You'd be well advised to replace that bleeder valve with a more robust replacement... they are known for rupturing as they get old and brittle. Some just eliminate the valve altogether but I think you hit on a good reason to replace. Maybe another member can give a recommendation for a better valve to splice inline.
