I'm working on replacing the belts, tensioners, and idler pulley on my LR3. The water pump isn't leaking but I can feel a little bit of play in the pulley so I think it's time for that as well. While struggling to remove the fan I also noticed movement in what I think is a bearing in the viscous coupling (LR025234). I'm assuming there shouldn't be any movement here but a second opinion wouldn't hurt. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Maybe something went wrong when I made a clip form the original video. New fan is on the list, at least it will be nice to have all these things out of the way at once.

Is there anything else worth replacing preemptively while I have all the belts and pulleys off? I'm thinking I should at least replace the t-stat housing since I will have to open the cooling system for the water pump. I have already done the bleed valve and expansion tank. Maybe I should just put in a new set of hoses while i'm at it?

 

Depends on how much you want to spend. The t-stat housing is a part you want to go OEM on. You can get the "genuine" at Parts Geek for pretty cheap though, it will be OEM with the LR logos ground off. But the t-stat housing is pretty easy to do later on since it sits on top. Just have to remove the throttle body and various bits. Hoses are always a good idea. I have replaced a couple myself on my 2006, but I know at 18 years of age I need to replace them all. A full set is abut $400.00 USD. You may even find the radiator hose connections are starting to break down. My vehicle has always had the correct coolant, but even mine are breaking up now. So if you are not replacing the radiator (Nisens is $200 for a new one) then take care in removing any hose connections on it and make sure they are well seated upon install.
