Default CV splines - new, how should they look?

Well I searched but there is no much help. I tore a boot and since it probably happened during some aggressive negotiations with rock loaded mud, I decided to replace the entire CV axle. I will rebuild the old and rebuild it to sell probably. The new one is an LR original part. I think my worries are just that, but if anyone has another new one laying around to look at. Or experience seeing these before, I would love some input. The inner splines, at the diff, look odd to be. Like partially machined or such. Normal?

I don’t have a new one to compare to, but looks ok to me, as in should work fine.

I have seen this in other applications in other industries. The base stock rod they used to make the axle was SLIGHTLY too small on one side after the forging (or whatever process got them that point). They machined the whole area to fit in the hub, but some of it was already smaller than what was required. Since this should be inside the seal you should not worry about leaking either. I would not put it in an aircraft, but in a Land Rover..... Yes.

As Abran said, ( and I would trust his judgment), it should work fine.

Okay, thanks guys. Being a genuine part, I suppose its measured for tolerances before being shipped out. Guess I am just being paranoid.

With Land Rovers you are never paranoid...... you are just planning for the next repair.

I am beginning to think that old mechanic I knew in my youth was tight. He said:
"If you keep up with service inspections and replace items when you find them, you will never repair a car, no matter how long as you own it".

Good luck on the "service work"

Jeff
