Engine noises, possible timing chain issue
Hi guys,
LR3 is making two sounds:
1.) a rhythmic sound, loudest from the passenger wheel wheel, that sounds like a timing chain issue. It doesn’t seem to be a major issue, but it’s noticeable, like when idling in park or in drive thrus. I don’t know much about this issue, seems like the tensioner will sometimes need replaced–is this correct? If so, is this a DIY task for those that are handy?
2.) when idling in drive or reverse, I get a noise that sounds like a few raindrops here and there. It doesn’t sound like a tick or rod knock to me, more like something loose, but I can’t find anything. Curious what it could be, possible transmission issue?
Thanks, all.

1 - could easily be an exhaust leak.
The exhaust manifold bolts are known to come loose and cause an exhaust leak. Indeed noticeable in a drive-thru. I was able to access the back ones on both sides pretty easily and tighten them up. Sound gone.
2 - need more info, where does the sound seem to come from? It could be anything from a loose heat shield to a driveshaft u-joint.

For second issue, it’s really hard to tell but the sound seems to be coming from below vehicle or lower engine and on both sides.
